Sidney O'Gorman
Composer/Tenor Vocalist/Music Educator
Sidney O’Gorman is a Boston based composer and tenor vocalist. He writes music that is forged from a collaborative process with his performers and which prioritizes a clear structure and sound world. His work has been described as music of “vulnerability” and of “clarity and sharpness of [...] intention”, in his use of narrative as an integral tool for the construction of material and form. He received his master’s degree in Music Composition from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and received his bachelor’s degree in Music Theory and Composition from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.
As a lifelong vocal performer, Sidney has experience in both solo and ensemble singing. He has participated in such choral ensembles as the Church on the Hill Choir in Boston, the Boston Conservatory Conductor's Choir, and the Frost Chorale at the University of Miami. With an interest in contemporary performance of various styles, Sidney has also performed in large and chamber ensembles including John Daversa's All Without Words: Variations Inspired by Loren for jazz orchestra and choir.
Sidney has experience writing for a diverse number of projects including scores for film, chamber ensembles, wind ensemble, electronic music, and choir. His notable projects include writing for the 2023 Impulse New Music Festival’s “Debussy Trio” and the Frost Chorale’s 2022 European tour. He also has experience in arts administration and concert planning from having worked for the administrative office at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, and planning and producing concerts for new music as the president of the University of Miami’s student chapter of the Society of Composers, Inc. He has studied with composers such as Bahar Royaee, Marti Epstein, Dan VanHassel, Timothy McCormack, Donald Scott Stinson, and Charles Mason.
